    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thought it was very useful and insightful. I managed to get a good taste of what working at BP would be like. After talking to the current Summer Interns I was able to learn more about the different divisions within BP. I especially enjoyed the trading game too!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued during my time at the company. All the people that I met were very friendly especially Vikki. Lunch was to a great standard too which also made me feel very valued. I would definitely come back to BP!

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a good amount of support. Talking to the current interns helped me to get a lot of guidance of what work is involved at BP and what their day-to-day roles are. Also, during the trading game I received a lot of support on what strategy to use and what to look out for which really helped too!

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that the trading simulation has helped me to analyse news and market events quicker and has allowed me to work in a fast paced environment better. This will help me in the future because I want to pursue a career in trading too!

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I though the insight was very well structured. I would say, however, that if the programme would have been earlier we could have had more time with the interns. But this is understandable as it is the interns' last week too. I really enjoyed all the talks too. I liked the structure of the talk on oil before the trading simulator as it gave good context before we started trading.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I thought the general atmosphere was great and surprisingly relaxing! I did not feel pressured at all because everyone that I had met were very friendly which is great. This really reflected to me the relaxed culture within BP and this is also what really appeals to me.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think the firm did invest in me by providing me with the trading simulation. This would take a lot of time to set up and I thought this was essential for my development and training. I also thought the company did a great job by bringing in employees to give us talks because it helped me to understand the work involved within BP.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I think that the insight did a great job in helping me to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company. I think that the introduction speech [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was good for this as it introduced me to the roles involved. Also, the intern speed networking was good with this too.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • This insight helped me a lot in understanding the company culture. I heard many times that the culture within BP is much different to other firms. It is much more relaxed and less pressured and this is great. I learnt about this through speed networking with the BP interns.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of the day was instrumental in helping me to decide on my future career path. The trading simulator definitely made me want to go into trading and I will most definitely be applying to BP for the Trading & Business internship thanks to this insight. I was really confused prior to this insight on what to go for but after this insight I am certain that I want to pursue a career in trading.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was not paid or reimbursed expenses.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, there were lots of opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company. I was able to network with current interns and learn more about the firm. Also, the speakers were really friendly too in that I was able to ask questions during the Q&A and this was great to learn about the firm too.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking events & social opportunities were great as I was able to learn more about the firm. One point of improvement would be to dedicate more time to the current intern speed networking sessions. I feel that I learnt quite a lot from the current interns and I had more questions that I wanted to ask.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I did not find out about many activities that employees can get involved in outside of work. I think this was purely because the event was quite short. Maybe if there was more time I would have been able to find out more about the activities or BP could make each speaker talk about some activities that they can get involved in outside of work briefly?

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. I had such a good experience and it helped me to understand that banks are not the only place where you can trade well. I think this insight helped me also to decide which career path to take so I would especially recommend this to friends who are unsure about which division they want to go into.
