    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I very much enjoyed my internship, I felt like I was challenged but at the same time supportive, and now have a really good insight into how the firm operates at all levels, from the very bottom (the interns) right up to senior leadership. I would thoroughly recommend that others apply for a similar internship here.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt really valued by my colleagues. They would always include me in meetings where they felt I might have some input, and I was always encouraged to put my views across and provide feedback. I also felt as though they were interested in my work that I was doing (to start with, I was given my very own project to complete!) no matter how busy they were. It felt like being a real full-time employee.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support was probably the best part of the internship. I was given: a manager who was my main point of contact and provided me with overall feedback; a project manager who was a stakeholder in my project and was on hand for more specific technical questions/advice; a mentor who took more of an advisory role in terms of my potential career path and how to handle the social environment on the office; a buddy who was an approachable and honest person to whom I could ask all my silly questions (like 'where is the printer?'); and was also encouraged to and aided in building a support network around me during my internship.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy, with small deliverables being expected every week. But you are encouraged to set your own expectations and the expectations of those around you as to what you hope to achieve, rather than being ordered to complete tasks. My manager and project manager were very good at understanding that if I was new to a topic, or ran into problems along the way, then it may take me longer to complete something, but that I was still working hard. It was never so hectic that I had to stay really late or got overstressed, as the pressure was always kept manageable.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given my very own project! This was really great because now I can leave feeling as though I have created my own product which I put my stamp on. I was given free reign over this project to decide the deliverables, and how I wanted to implement it (with guidance and feedback of course), and felt like I was trusted as the subject matter expert throughout. Although I did not hear of any interns being given production-critical tasks to complete, which may have been too much responsibility and presure!

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training was excellent. Loads of training freely available and we were encouraged as interns to do as much training as possible alongside our project work. I learnt technical skills and information as well as things like presentation, effective communication, and how to stay resilient in a pressured environment. It felt like the company was really investing into making us happy, well-rounded employees. Although my degree is quite unrelated to the job and so I do not feel the technical skills will help me much, the softer skills will be really valuable.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was quiet and calm mostly. But the consensus was always that you could go up and talk to people. Everyone was generally friendly and would talk to you even if they didn't know you, and they were some really funny moments! Of course it's recognised that you are there to work, but everyone has a smile on their face and it's a really pleasant atmosphere.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Everything was really well organised. From projects and team organisation to talks, training, social events, and day trips, we were given a busy and varied calendar of events.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm really invested in us, I was really impressed! We had two days of training at the beginning of the internship, as well as technical training sessions throughout which were really engaging and helpful. We were also given access to online training resources at home and at work to use whenever we wanted, so if you came up against a technology that you hadn't encountered before you always had somewhere to go to get information. Also we were given loads of soft skills training, from communication and tailoring your style to the audience, to writing clean and maintainable code, to presentation and time-management, to being resilient and proactive about your health in a busy working environment.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to work for the organisation. I feel as though I have done for ten weeks!

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The social scene was quite good, with lots of organised intern events (both social and more training-based). However people were often busy and tired after work so it was about striking a balance between working hard and playing hard.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is very expensive, especially the city. The two most expensive things I found were rent, and going out for food and drink. Travel is also a big expense if you are commuting into London from surrounding areas, at up to 拢20 a day.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was fantastic. Loads of bars, restaurants, clubs etc, both in the city and also in East London where I was living, The one drawback was the expense.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are loads of opportunities to do other things in a city as big as London, so long as you have the time after work and socialising!

    3/5
