    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a brilliant 11 weeks with BP. I was given real responsibility, meaningful and interesting project work and the team I was working with couldn't have been more friendly or helpful.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team I was working with were great. Everyone was more than happy to take time out of their day to explain or help out with any issues or areas I was uncertain about. There was a really good team spirit and an entertaining level of banter as well as an active social side.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was fantastic. I seem to have been particularly lucky with how involved he was during my internship to ensure I got the most out of it, but that said all the interns commented on how approachable their line managers were.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always found I had things to be doing but never felt like I was buried under a pile of work.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement, almost to the extent where it became unnerving. However I think that was a great oppertunity to see what it would be like to be a graduate and in hindsight I found it really rewarding.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I don't think I have learnt any new skills per se, but I did receive detailed and valuable training which has greatly broadened my knowledge of the engineering side of the oil and gas industry.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was always relaxed but professional. I always felt free to go and have a chat with my colleagues or to take a break when I needed one.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was very impressed with how well organised the business and my manager were throughout the placement. I felt I was particularly lucky with how good my manager was with structuring my time within the team to give me a broad experience, but all the Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs seemed to have clearly defined goals etc.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Whenever I needed something in terms of training it was organised ASAP.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have an assessment centre in a few weeks and I would definitely accept a job offer from BP.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • In London the Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs were a bit spread out. We met up a few times outside of work but nowhere near as regularly as the Aberdeen Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs who had the advantage of all living in the same accomodation. We always met up for lunch and we had a regular 5-a-side football game etc as well

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in London so it was more expensive than the Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs based in Aberdeen. However BP did provide an additional salary allowance to compensate for being based in London.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good but expensive.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Everyone was always up for socialising and doing things out of work but organising these events was a hassle as everyone was so spread out.

    4/5
