The Role
It was very enjoyable, but could be a tad boring at times. I enjoyed the days in which things were happening quickly and I had a lot to do/contribute, and I think this would only increase as a graduate in a graduate job. However, my team and the other interns were great to work with, and this contributed to the enjoyment.
I felt I was both given responsibility by my team and any input was valued by them. They gave me tasks that were genuinely useful to the team and much of my work ended up in final products. The team valued me from the very beginning which I appreciated highly.
I felt that the support given to me by my team was greater than that given by the recruiters/department as a whole, as I was not competing with any other interns within my team, and I felt I was being made to in department-wide intern exercises. Saying that, they gave extensive training and plenty of avenues for help if it was needed.
Some days I was extremely busy, and others not so, even if I asked for work. On the one hand, as I did not have a self-contained 鈥減roject鈥 I always felt I was helping the team, yet this meant, as there were some activities, like interacting with clients, there were some days in which I had little work. Saying that, I was in the office every day for over 12 hours.
I was given great responsibility, both in research and in writing, and much of what I wrote ended up in products sent to clients. Obviously I could have little direct interaction with clients, but I was taken both to client and research meetings. I always felt that I was genuinely contributing to the efforts of the team
The technical skills that I learned, particularly the accounting, will not aid much in my history degree, but I think that, as well as the research and writing skills I developed, the practical skills such as time management will also be of great help in my degree. This has been a great foundation for the world of finance, especially as I find I learn best through doing.
The Company
The atmosphere was quiet, but it was not rude nor threatening. The general attitude was one of friendliness, and a willingness to help, and answer any question, no matter what it was. I did not feel out of place or not wanted within the office. Nor did you feel you had to work for 20 hours every day as an intern
The internship was very well organised, integrated within their greater recruitment process for graduate jobs. Throughout our time, nothing was a surprise, and you knew the set up for the entire ten weeks, right through to the stock pitch at the very end. The graduate recruiter was always available for any questions you might have, and they set you up with both a buddy and a mentor within the firm.
The investiture that the firm places in you is really in the promise of a job at the end. We were given a week鈥檚 extensive training, but we could have done with more. You always felt that you were wanted within the firm, and you and your contribution were valued.

Future job prospects are very appealing, especially as you have the opportunity to move divisions within the firm, and also move around the world with them. Importantly, as a graduate you are given hugely intensive training, which it would be hard to get elsewhere. I don鈥檛 know about staying there forever, but absolutely 1-3 years.
The Culture
Obviously working 12-13 hours a day, there was very little socialising outside of the office, apart from on a Friday for drinks. However, we were very friendly as an intern class, going for breakfast/coffee together, and you always felt that everyone was supporting each other, bot putting each other down.
London is very expensive, but we were being paid a good enough salary for that not to matter too much
Again, London is the hub of the country, yet with the hours that we worked there was very little time to experience much of that nightlife
Given that I left the office everyday after 7, I had little capacity to get into events or activities outside of work
