The Role
I really enjoyed my internship - it was a really great opportunity and the rotations meant that I could see a lot of different areas of the division. This gave me a more well rounded experience and it meant I could make an informed decision on which one I liked best.
The internship is mainly about the people on the desk teaching you things that you do not already know, or you trying to come up with ideas to pitch and demonstrate that you have learnt the things you have been taught, so it is harder to feel valued by people.
I was given weekly feedback by my mentors and supervisors and we also had weekly group meetings for feedback and advice sessions. We were also given buddies, who provided us with support throughout the internship, and our desk supervisors also gave us feedback. This was really helpful as it helped me to identify areas which I could improve on.
I was very busy on a daily basis - I always had several projects to do for different desks and I also had to keep on top of the news and prepare before speaking to anyone and therefore this kept me very busy. I really enjoyed being busy and I feel it really helped me with time management and prioritising tasks.
I was not given much responsibility as an intern, as we are not regulated or approved; instead we were mainly given projects to help the desk do something that they would not otherwise have time to do, or projects to help us understand a particular topic or concept, therefore this did not require much responsibility.
I learnt a lot about the finance industry and the different products and services the different desks offer. It was a very fascinating experience and I believe the skills I learnt in technical understanding as well as in networking and communication and time management will be invaluable to my future studies and career endeavours
The Company
Everyone was very friendly and all the desks were pretty nice to the interns. The general atmosphere was pretty cool and pretty chilled, so there were many people walking around, on the phone to clients, but mostly people sat at their desks and talked to interns. Overall, I think it would be a pleasant atmosphere in which to work.
The overall internship was very organised. From the start we were given talks by people from different divisions as well as basic financial training for those without a financial background. We were told clearly at the start what the aims were and how the internship was structured and I think it was done well such that we all got a good overview of the different desks but also had time to focus on the ones we liked best.
The company really invests in the interns - all the people I met took time out of their day to speak to me and come up with projects and go over things with me. We also had a solid support system of mentors and buddies which were really useful in helping us identify areas which we needed to work on so giving us better development over the course of the internship.

Future employment prospects are rosy within the firm, as people get a lot of responsibility very fast and it is a very exciting place to work. There is a real team atmosphere and everyone helps everyone. Furthermore, they do an accelerated analyst programme which is attractive for those looking to develop their career. You also get exposed to a lot of things which would be really good for broadening your perspective.
The Culture
It was in London, so it was very expensive. The average accommodation price is quite expensive as you have to live relatively close so that commuting is not too much hassle as you will be at work for long periods of time. Food prices are also high compared to non london places and transport is also relatively expensive. Drinks too are expensive.
