    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My team members were all very friendly and happy to help whenever I had a problem. Since there were almost 100 interns, there was always something going on and an event to go to with the other interns, and this made the internship a lot more enjoyable. The work was definitely preparing for the future instead of maintaining legacy applications which also made it more enjoyable.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was given tasks that were actually used within the project straight away. The team also invited myself and the other intern out to lunches too and happily talked to us. The people I sat near, and my manager were all very friendly and happy to talk, and help me when needed.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Since I was on a new project, I could not always be given help but the team were always happy to help me out when I could. I was given a mid-internship review where my manager took me over what I was doing well and what I should improve on, and also told me whether I was on board for a job offer at the end of the internship.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy - but never rushed. Tasks were understood to take as long as they do without anyone in the team rushing the interns to do them, but there was always something for us to do had we finished whatever we were doing - so we were never bored or too busy.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Despite being on a new project and only being an intern, I created three entire features of the app that were included in the next release. I was also given the responsibility of documenting what I had done so that the team didn't get left in the dark once I was gone, which would have caused an issue.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed a lot of general skills in working as a team - as part of an agile team - and managing time, and also many technical skills in using dependency management using tooks such as maven and bower, using task runners such as grunt, using the Angular framework which I had never used before, using Spring boot which I had also never used before and a multitude of others to a lesser extent

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was quiet but people were always happy to have a chat about things - they also took us out for lunch on the first and last weeks. The office dress code was casual which helped the atmosphere of the office feel more relaxed and people would come in to the office between 9 and 10 - as long as they stayed the 8 hours it didn't matter.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship work was very well set up with the team always having tasks planned for us before we finished the last ones. There was an intern hackathon which was very badly organised due to it being run from London and us being based in Glasgow. The tech mentor scheme was also not well organised as we didn't find out about it until very late on and the mentors weren't given much information, although the scheme had only just started.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company had an online training platform to help you learn about anything you wanted to learn about and you could take a day or two when you wanted to sit and watch the videos, which were very useful as they included pluralsight courses. The team was also happy to help give you pointers if you didn't know something.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I got a mid-internship review with my manager and HR taking me through everything I had been doing well and anything I could improve on and was told at the end of the internship that I was on track for a job offer. A lot of interns were told they were on track, meaning there were a lot of jobs available through the internship scheme

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • Yes, there was almost 100 interns so there was always something going on among the interns. Every weekend people were going out and going to events or just on nights out and inviting the others. There was also company organised socials for the interns to go, eat and socialise, which were also enjoyable

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Glasgow is a relatively cheap city to live and work and the pay for the internship was very good so living in the area is relatively cheap. Socialising in Glasgow is also very cheap and you can definitely go on a lot of nights out with the earnings from JP Morgan's internship

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I may be a little biased as a Glaswegian but Glasgow has an excellent nightlife. There are a lot of cheap bars such as driftwood, tingle and firewater and Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ nightclubs like Jellybaby, or a few budget ones not just aimed at Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs like the Garage, or if you enjoy your underground dance music there are SWG3, Bekeley suite or Sub Club

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were not many opportunities organised by the internship to get involved outside of work, but there were a lot of activities organised by the interns. At least twice a week during the week there was something to do and every weekend there were invites to do something with the other interns

    4/5
