The Role
From Day 1 I felt very respected and valued at the firm. There is a excellent balance between working hard and having fun from the various social events which are held. The team which I had worked in have been very supportive and fair - allowing me to become more confident and fit in well within the culture at JPMorgan. My enjoyment of Finance as an academic discipline has also allowed me to further enhance my enjoyment at JPMorgan.
I am in no doubt that the work I have produced as an intern has been extremely valued from other colleagues in my team and indeed outside of the team. I instinctively know that any work that has been asked of me needs to produced to the highest standard of quality to which I can deliver due to the heavy, but manageable, responsibility I was given.
I was given strong guidance and support at the beginning of my internship to ensure that I fully understand processes. However, over time, I had to use my own initiative as my manager is extremely busy. My manager and I ensured that at least once a week we would have a meeting to discuss where I was regarding the progress of certain projects and I was given the opportunity to raise any queries or concerns
I was given a heavy, but manageable, workload. I always ensured that I would raise this with my manager if the workload became too much - however this was never the case. Sometimes I was in the office late, mainly to ensure that tasks were fully completed and not left to the next day.
My responsibility grew throughout the duration of the internship. Towards the end of the internship, I have a lot of responsibility in ensuring that the tasks that I solely run are valid and accurate as some of these gets sent to very senior people throughout the firm. I know my team will always be there for me to iron out any queries or questions to give me full confidence in my work.
There are not many hard skills which can be transferred from JPMorgan to my Finance degree at University. However, I feel that I have grown in confidence and communication whilst being at the firm and this should definitely help me during the final year at university when speaking to lecturers.
The Company
Extremely relaxed and professional - a good balance between work and fun. It is an extremely open environment, you never feel secluded or left on your own.
Events and training days were prepared well in advanced which ensured that the interns were always up to date.
I felt that the firm has invested heavily in the interns and grads. I felt this because we met extremely senior people at the firm which made us all feel valued and respected as well as a host of events which was hosted.
They are extremely appealing! The company ensures that graduates are well catered for which adds to the time and effort they are investing within the younger generation at the firm.
The Culture
There is a variety of social events which are hosted to ensure that interns network with other employee's at the bank from different line's of businesses. There were also great social events which was hosted outside of the working hours to bond with other interns on the programme. Although work can dominate this aspect sometimes.
I did not live in Canary Wharf at the time so I can't really comment on the cost of living - however lunches around the area are generally quite pricey. There are a few social spots in Canary Wharf and are extremely close to central London to experience a larger social space.
Nightlife is much better in Central London than in Canary Wharf
There were a few events laid on outside of working hours however it can be difficult to organise all of the interns together due tot the different lne of businesses we all work in
