The Role
To a large extent. The expectations of internships being daunting and scary were not lived up to but rather replaced by friendly staff that were willing to help out with answers to questions to the best of their knowledge and If not would direct me to the relevant parties that could assist me.
Highly valued. This was seen with the tasks and responsibilities provided to me. I was given tasks that had significant impacts on the team as opposed to just menial outstanding roles that needed to be completed.
Having a manager and an analyst that were always readily available meant that support and guidance was easy to obtain and work could easily be cross-referenced before submission.
Being in a project management role implies that there are days were I was extremely busy and equally days were I wasn't as busy based on the requirements of the project. Difficult to rate "business" on a daily scale but on the average I never found myself not having something to do or simply trying fill my time with non-work related activities. I always ensured that these were both reached in equal proportions.
Again, being placed in a project management team means that a specific number of responsibilities cannot simply be handed down. Rather, the responsibilities came on a daily and sometimes weekly basis. There were days where I had over 10 responsibilities to be completed in the day and likewise some days I had under 10 responsibilities.
Degree choice and role I was placed in were pretty disjointed thus no direct link or correlation between the two. Rather there were indirect links such as efficiency in managing projects in my final year that was picked up whilst working, improved use of MS Office, the ability to adopt and adjust to new changes and using this to your advantage in completing tasks.
The Company
Bubbly and exciting. HPW working environment ensures that no one person is allocated to one desks and there's a general buzz and excitement around the office and this makes it easier to approach people that may not necessarily be in your direct team but contribute to the wider picture of tasks assigned.
Varied from department but great across board.
Mandatory training courses provided for you to learn about the firm and besides that there are loads of optional training modules and programs that you can sign onto. Opportunities are available but depends on how proactive you are about such personal developments.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
Different roles and departments in the firm implies that the options available once you join the firm are endless.
The Culture
Yeah- proactive organizing of events amongst interns like football, paintballing, weekend trips and regular night outs amongst others provided a good buzz amongst the interns.
Very affordable.
Depends on the area you're coming from and what you're used to and expectations of nightlife. Having always been a city person the nightlife exposed to in big cities around the world is usually quite different from night life in smaller towns. Nonetheless, there is a nightlife presence and you have to make the most of it to have a good night out.
Yes- I spearheaded a footballing tourney amongst interns which was then followed up with matches against the company's own football club and one of the departments within the firm.
