    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship at JP Morgan - I interned in Investor Services on the Derivative Clearing Client Service Desk. My work was projects based and I found that my projects added value to the team and were interesting. I really enjoyed collaborating with colleagues from different teams and learnt a huge amount. I also really the fact there was an intern community and made a lot of friends on my internship.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I got on with my colleagues really well and they were all more than happy to go out of their way to help me settle in. I was given a buddy who was a great support - throughout the ten week internship we would meet up on a weekly basis to discuss how I was finding everything. She had been through the internship and graduate scheme process fairly recently so could relate easily to me.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manger was great - I had weekly one on ones with him which gave me the opportunity to ask for feedback each week. My manager was very supportive and encouraged me to reach out to other team members in order to make sure I grew my network. I also received a lot of support from the analyst in my team - he had done the summer internship the previous summer so knew what it was like to be in my position.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would typically get to my desk around 7.30am as I like to get in early and have time to get things done before any meetings would start which would generally be around 8.30am. The day would go super quickly as I was so busy - I had multiple projects to complete so constantly had competing priorities.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good amount of responsibility - the projects I was involved in were doing real work e.g. work that would have needed to be picked up by another team member had I not been here. My main presentation involved presenting to my wider team and then sending on my presentation to senior management.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a huge amount on my internship - the first week was a training week where we were in a classroom all week. We were split up by business area into smaller groups which meant by the end of the week we knew each other really well. Moreover, once I began on my desk I reach out to the product subject matter experts who were more than willing to give me a 'teach in' on each product which considerably helped with my understanding of the products.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a good atmosphere in the office – everyone was friendly and very welcoming. We were encouraged to reach out to other teams in order get a holistic view of the business area – everyone that I reached out was more than happy to spend some time with me to give me an overview of the area they worked in.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised – we were given a schedule of the ten weeks when we started with all the events that would be put on for the interns. These included networking opportunities with senior management, mid and end of internship socials, breakfast meetings with senior management, training at Bloomberg etc.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested a lot in us in terms of training and development. The first week was a training week where we were split up into business lines and taught in a classroom – at the end of the week we presented on what we had learnt. Moreover, we also had the opportunity to spend an afternoon at Bloombergs offices learning about how to use a Bloomberg terminal.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are high within the firm – during the internship you have a mid-internship and end of internship evaluation. During the mid internship evaluation you get told whether or not you are on track fro an offer onto the full time graduate scheme and then you find out the result at the end of internship meeting.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • Yes there was definitely a good social scene among both the fellow interns and my team. For the interns there are 3 big socials – the first is a welcome one on the first day which was a good opportunity to meet people. The second was in week 6 of the internship and the third was in the last week. My team were also pretty good at getting together for drinks every few weeks. Another big highlight was the JP Morgan corporate challenge event (a 5K run around Battersea park) that I took part in which is a huge event and a lot of fun!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in the Canary Wharf, London office – being in central London living is pretty expensive nut that is to be expected. Socialising in Canary wharf is great there is a real buzz about the place. Also with the Olympics being on this summer there is a big screen above the grass area which is really nice to go during lunch.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in London was great – Thursdays and Fridays are really busy and due to the intern culture being really good we made the most of being in the city. Canary Wharf has a really good atmosphere and if the weather is good then is really nice to go for a drink over looking the water after work!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As I was only at JP Morgan for 10 weeks it was difficult to get involved with activities, however, if I were to come back there are multiple activities from tennis, hockey, running club etc. to get involved in outside of work. The interns were pretty good at getting together on a Friday for drinks after work which I really enjoyed.
