The Role
I enjoyed everything about my internship. I was given interesting and worthwhile tasks to do and learnt so much in such a short space of time. I have been exposed to some very interesting and extremely insightful people whom have taught me a great deal. The firm has organized a range of extra activities, HR have been the best I have ever worked with, and I have made some good friends in the 10 weeks. I would certainly recommend the internship to others.
With the completion of tasks to a high standard, the meeting of deadlines and the expressing of my own ideas I have earned trust and respect from my team. It is hard to feel highly valued in such a short space of time with the amount of input you can have and responsibility you can take on. Nevertheless, I do feel that my colleagues have treated me as one of the team, and have in nom way sidelined me or labeled me as the intern.
My management has been great. My line manager has always been available to discuss any issues, and always has time to have a chat with me on a day-to-day basis. He has been extremely down to earth, not expecting me to work ridiculous hours and has allowed me to take a day or two off when needed. My HR rep has been available throughout the program to meet up with and discuss any issues that I have, as well as my buddy whom has been there for any more slightly personal questions.
I have been busy on a daily basis, but with effective time management and prioritization I have been able to fit everything in to a normal working day. I have been given a reasonable amount of tasks by my team, and if I find myself with some free time I have sat with my colleagues to better understand the day to day aspects of the role.
As earlier noted, there is a limited amount of responsibility that can be given to someone on a 10 week internship. However, I do feel as though my work has had a purpose, and often the work I have completed has been sent to a client, and the trade ideas I have come up with, if good enough, could very well be printed by a client.
The training I received was in depth, but I feel as though it could have been more product specific. The skills I developed on the job were invaluable. I have not only learnt about the technical aspects of the job, but also more about how best to act in such a dynamic environment. I have developed a good understanding of the importance of being organized and quick to act, as well as working with a extremely high degree of accuracy with the consequences that can occur if this is not the case.
