    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was enjoyable and a very fulfilling experience. I got great insight into the firm, its business and its culture, as well as building invaluable relationships with employees and other interns. The many organised intern events made the summer more exciting and ensured that we were doing a variety of tasks outside our direct desk work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All colleagues are very friendly and helpful. They spend a lot of time with you to tell you about their business area and explain tasks, as well as give you background information. They treated you like an equal and were eager to work with you, no matter how senior they were. All the people were very approachable and made an effort to teach you as much as possible so that you can make the most of your internship.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Tasks were laid out very clearly and I often had catch-up sessions with my manager to ask about the direction of my projects and seek guidance. Managers were keen to explain at length and numerous times the jobs which I was required to do, as well as specify what their expectations are. Managers were supportive when I did not understand something and told me where I can do further reading or who I can reach out to for help.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As a first internship experience, I learn about how to conduct myself in the world of work and how such a big company operates. The interpersonal skills which I developed are invaluable for any possible future job, as it is important to know how to act around people and respond to certain situations. I learnt to be efficient and get my work done quickly, as the volume of work was often great. I expect that the financial knowledge I gained will help me in my further university studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It depends a lot on the team, but all the teams I worked in were very friendly and joked a lot. They were serious, accurate and efficient when it came to work, but that did not stop them from creating a fun and light-hearted atmosphere in the office, so that everyone was at ease. The atmosphere was competitive amongst the interns and the employees, but it was a constructive competitiveness, with people helping each other to perform the best they can.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a week of training at the beginning of the internship, where we were taught broad finance concepts that were useful to all lines of business. During the internship, the teams invested in you by teaching you as much as possible about their work, so that you have more knowledge when you join them for a permanent position in the future.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Healthcare/Dental

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future prospects are very appealing and I would really like to work there in the future. It is however very competitive during the internship, as all the interns are of an incredibly high standard and product high-quality work, so it is difficult to get offered a job at the end. If you work hard and are a good match for the company, then a future job would be a great opportunity.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • There were very few organised social events by the company (only 2!) and interns tended to organise events in small groups only. There was not a great community feeling amongst interns, probably primarily because of the different working hours and accommodation locations, which made it difficult to arrange meetings. Nevertheless the interns were very open and talkative when we did meet up and when seeing them within the company.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The internship is in London, so the nightlife is great. There is so much to do, that you do not have time to explore all the opportunities in the short 10 weeks which you are there. There are a wide variety of clubs with completely different atmospheres and in many different locations, as well as famous bars, both casual and formal, in which to have a good night.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The Business Resource groups organised events often, which were interesting in order to meet other people of the company, especially those with similar characteristics to oneself. These were however also in the office, so outside of the building there were not so many opportunities. London is very diverse, so you can make your own activities for the weekend and there is plenty to do.
