    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the BP Discovery Day as I felt it gave me an excellent insight into what it is like to work in BP. I particularly enjoyed the presentations given by the senior engineers and those on placement as they gave an excellent idea into the application process and useful information on how to get a year long placement.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Although it was very useful for me, I felt valued by BP, for instance paying for travel expenses and lunch is something not expected but makes you feel valued. Similarly with the number of employees at BP I was able to meet made it feel as though the event was important. The free lunch and breakfast also made me feel valued.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The insight we received was very good. Firstly the interview guidance helped tremendously by improving my interview confidence and also gave me the opportunity to ask questions to reassure me with any issues that I had. Similarly the fact that there were so many placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs there gave us many opportunities to ask them questions about the interview process.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The main skill that I was able to develop was my interview skills. The fact that we were split into small groups made it much easier to develop interview skills. The drilling simulator was not working and I feel that would have allowed me to improve my skills a lot more than what I did. Furthermore the business game gave me an insight into what is required to work for BP.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The information given before about the day was sufficient and I felt as though I was fully prepared for the day and knew what I was going to be doing. Similarly the information about where to stay and travel expenses was sufficient. We were busy throughout the day and felt as though everyone working there knew what they were doing and guided us well.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I think it is sometimes hard to create a good atmosphere when a group of people do not know each other. But the team building games and the leaders helped to improve the atmosphere. Similarly the placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs helped people to feel relaxed as they all walked round to talk to people to make sure everyone was relaxed.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Considering it was only a day, I feel as though the amount of time invested in us was very good. At each point in the day, you could see there was a reason for each of the activities that we did. For example, even the lunch we had a networking session to ask any questions or reassure any issues we may have had with the company.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Obviously with only one day at the company it was hard to gain a true representation of what the company is like but with the amount of people we met, different parts of the site we went to and from the presentations we were given I feel as though as much insight was given as could have been. But clearly the presentations may not show everything about the company.

    3/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Through site tours and meeting people we were able to see the culture of the company. For example there is a massive health and safety culture like having to hold the hand rail when walking up the stairs. From the presentations and people talking through how they have moved through the company we also gained and insight.

    2/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I feel as though I was able to gain much more of an insight into BP as a company than what I would have done had I just done research on the Internet. Having the interns there helped to show the way in which your career would follow. Similarly having recruitment people there also enable me to improve my chances of realising where I want to go.

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was very suprised to be reimbursed travel and accommodation expenses.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, there were interns there and the lunch entailed a networking event were we met and asked questions to BP employees.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The lunch

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There was a brief mention of the social events that go on in BP.

    2/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend the BP experience day to a friend as it gave me a much better idea on what BP is like and the recruitment process you go through to get an intern. I feel as though I found out much more information than what I would have done had I just looked on the Internet or went to a careers fair.
