About You
The Shadow and Intern day at BP was an amazing experience. I thought that the idea of shadow an intern was very insightful, as I acquired a lot of knowledge about the role as a commercial analyst. This was a great experience which enabled me to gain clarity towards my future career prospects.
The atmosphere during this insight day was very professional and welcoming. The environment was a very non pressurised atmosphere, in which made me feel valued as it didn't feel like the company was pressuring me to join them, but instead valued me as a person, as they paid keen attention to making this experience the best and insightful experience I could ever get at BP All the staff was very enthusiastic and motivated , which made me feel that working for BP would be an enjoyable experience.
During my placement, I received a lot of guidance not only thorough the duration of the placement but also before hand. I was partnered up with an intern who not only gave me an in depth description of what were going to be doing throughout the day, she also offered a lot of support and advice before the placement started. Whilst I was completing my placement , all of the staff were very helpful and offered their support by giving me a lot of insightful advice.
The experience as whole, enable me to understand how it would be to work as commercial analyst at BP. From meeting new people, learning more about myself, being able to attend meetings, and my own personal opinions about business case studies , were skills that I developed through out my time during this insight day. However, I would definitely say that this insight day enabled me to gain a lot of confidence in talking to industry professionals, about a variety of subjects in the commercial analyst industry., which I definitely will help in future communicating with other industry professionals.
The Company
I believe that this insight placement was very well structured. The day was really packed with presentations and informations, and social events which turned out to be very enjoyable and a well balanced day. We had an itinerary in which we followed throughout the day. This gave us the ability to plan our day, which enabled me to ask any questions and queries at the end of time the insight as we had an sufficient amount of time.
The general atmosphere of BP was very relaxed buy yet vibrant. Although initially feeling very nervous and cautions at the beginning of the insight, I was automatically made to feel at home as all of the staff were very bubbly and welcoming, this enabled me to feel welcomed and less nervous about the insight day.
By allowing different people from different business functions talk to me about their role in BP enabled me to see that the company really valued personal development. The company managed to show that they care about each of their interns personal development, and managed to make me feel that I eared my place the insight day, which definitely boosted my confidence, as I felt valued.
This specific insight programmes was for the commercial analyst downstream team. Many of the exercises was directed towards this role, which I found was very helpful, as it gave me an in depth insight into what it takes to be a commercial analyst at one of the worlds biggest oil and gas companies. The company really managed to deliver and that event that gives you hands on experience of what working in this specific field would be like.

Yes the was variety opportunities for networking and meeting other employees in the company. I found this really helpful as it allowed to communicate with others about their own experiences as BP, and find out more about what they do. By allowing me to talk to industry professionals, it has given me the opportunity to gain a sense of clarification into my future career prospects, but also enabled me to gain confidence to communicate with others in a higher postilion.,
Everyone could freely interact and socialise with others, this created a relaxed and friendly atmosphere through out the duration of the insight day. Everyone was extremely friendly, which I found made it a lot easier to ask questions about a wide range of topics. In addition to this at lunch time I was also introduced to other interns, which I felt was a great experience as I was able to talk to them about their future career prospects, and how they were finding their own experience at BP.
Yes I was informed about the opportunities outside work that Bp offered. This enabled me to see that BP as a company highly values their employees. For example the intern I was paired up with, was given the opportunity to write a blog post and also create a video, that would act as aid to attract new potential candidates. I thought this was a great idea, as this made me realise that their are other projects that employees can take part in that is not work related.
